FSTC at the British Science Festival 2009
in collaboration with 1001 Inventions...
The British Science Festival is one of Europe's largest science festivals, taking place each September. The Festival is in a different location in the UK each year, bringing the public to the latest in science, technology and engineering. In this week long meeting, jam-packed programme has loads of events for everyone. Each year thousands of people join the British Science Association, the organiser of the Festival, for talks, plays, debates, hands-on activities and more.

This year the Festival is hosted by the University of Surrey in Guildford from 5-10 September 2009 with events taking place across Surrey.

The Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC) is hosting three events at the University of Surrey, in collaboration with 1001 Inventions. We will be holding family workshops all day on Saturday 5th September, where families can join FSTC in attempting to recreate artistic replicas based on past inventions. A mini exhibition, showcasing recent successes and exemplar material will also be present.

Professor Salim Al-Hassani, Chairman of FSTC, will be joining with Professor Jim Al-Khalili and Dr Rim Turkmani and other scholars on Monday 7th September to deliver a session entitled Copernicus and the Astronomy of Medieval Islam.

On Tuesday 8th September, FSTC is hosting a panel of reputable speakers: Professor Mohamed El-Gomati (Deputy Chairman of FSTC), Dr Anne-Maria Brennan (Senior Lecturer at London Southbank University),Dr. Subhi Al-Azzawi (ARB Architect, Kent) and Ms Marianne Cutler (Director of Science at the ASE). The theme of the event is Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Celebrating Muslim Heritage in around theOur World.
