George Saliba is Professor of Arabic and Islamic Science in the Department of Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures Columbia University. He has authored and edited numerous books in Arabic and English on Arabic Science.
His main field of investigation is the development of theoretical astronomy, and he has written extensively about the impact of Islamic civilisation on the development of European mathematics and cosmology.
For his outstanding accomplishments, George Saliba has been granted a number of awards and honours, including the History of Science Prize given by the Third World Academy of Science in 1993, and the History of Astronomy Prize in 1996 from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science.
